Carlsbad, Calif.–The Gemological Institute of America (GIA), together with the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ), has announced plans to offer two gemological courses in Jaipur, India.
The two-week courses–an intensive, in-class Accredited Jewelry Professional diploma program and a Diamond Grading Lab Class–will take place through GIA India and will begin the first week of February.
“GIA India plans to focus on education this year, with the goal to reach six cities within the country, including Jaipur and Kolkata, by the year 2010,” GIA India/Mideast Region Managing Director Nirupa Bhatt said in a media release. “Looking at the huge talent pool of people interested in gemology in India, as well as the immense opportunities in the gemstone industry throughout the country, we hope to train some 2,000 professionals each year.”
GIA India has also announced plans to run customized batches of training programs for corporate clients. Bhatt said in the release that the GIA will take its educational offerings to key Indian markets, both to align local skills with international standards and to attract fresh talent for the industry.
The Accredited Jewelry Professional diploma program and the Diamond Grading Lab Class will take place at Jaipur’s Hotel Park Prime. Registration continues until Jan. 27. For more information, or to register, contact Dimple Sondhi at 022-2287-0846 or dimple.sondhi@gia.edu.
For students from all over the world interested in taking courses at various GIA campuses, the institute has just released its 2009 Education Catalog, accessible in both print form and online.
The catalog contains all course and program descriptions, as well as important dates, schedules and updated tuitions and fees for all the GIA’s campuses.
“The new catalog provides an enlightening, easy-to-use resource for individuals wanting to pursue a gemological education, particularly during a challenging time,” GIA Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Kathryn Kimmel said in a media release. “We are in a difficult economy, and now, more than ever, people are turning to education to take them to the next level in their careers.”
