Caribbean Hook Bracelets

IGI gets into ‘green’ act

New York—The International Gemological Institute (IGI) is the latest jewelry industry organization to go “green.”

In anticipation of Earth Day, April 22, the IGI is announcing plans to offer grading reports printed on recycled and/or biodegradable paper using soy- and water-based inks.

The IGI Eco Report series officially will launch at JCK Las Vegas, scheduled for May 30-June 3 in Las Vegas.

According to a release from the IGI, these eco-friendly grading reports will be setting a green precedent in the jewelry industry, as IGI gemologists analyze, grade and issue thousands of reports daily for diamonds and colored gemstones.

“IGI is committed to reducing its environmental impact by offering reports in an environmentally friendly format,” IGI President Jerry Ehrenwald said in a media release issued on Thursday.

SIHH Basel 2008 Rolex Impressions

The 2008 Basel show is lovingly called “this time of year” around the Rolex boards. The rules of the game are that Rolex S.A. does it’s best to guard their news untill the start of the show, and the rest of the world seems to be hunting down every particle of information available. It starts in January with a wide variaty of wild rumours, and it always narrows down in March to some mixture of truth and nonsense. This years truths were a new and bigger Sea-Dweller and a red gold Daytona, secrets not really well kept.

The Gemological Day, convention organised by the Vicenza Fair in collaboration with Cisgem (Public Service for the Regulation of Gem Materials and Precious Metals) and I.G.I. (Italian Gemmological Institute), which has become a regular fixture during the spring edition of Vicenzoro, will this year cover a very up-to-date topic, one that at the same time is “delicate”, “TREATED DIAMONDS: CERTIFICATION”.

It is well known that treated diamonds are those subjected to processes that affect the gem’s colour and clarity: these kinds of stone are appearing more and more frequently on the world market and today’s operators must learn to live with them.

Minister of Commerce & Industry Launches Diamond Initiative with Africa - Rapaport

As the first-ever India-Africa conclave organised by the Ministry of External Affairs approaches, the Union Commerce Ministry has, for the first time, taken the initiative to establish systems for the direct imports of rough diamonds from Africa to India. To kick-off this initiative, the Minister of State for Commerce, Shri Jairam Ramesh is leading a high-powered delegation to Namibia and Angola beginning March 26th.
